Is Vladimir Putin the richest man in the world? Take a look at what he owns.

Vladimir Putin is estimated to be about 200 billion dollars which would make him the richest man on Earth. Keyword is estimated because no one truly knows how much money Putin has, his wealth is in enigma which many have suggested it was earned through corruption, illegal use of government funds and an intense network of offshore banks. Today we are going to dive into the rumors, facts and the estimates sorrounding Putin's wealth and ask the ultimate question is he the richest man on Earth.


Putin rose to power as prime minister of Russia in 1999 and later became the president of the Russian federation. He's been praised for strengthening the Russian economy but at the same time the political activities as a whole have been crowded by controversies for lack of elections and press freedom as well as frequent jailing of political opponents. Political corruption is one of the reason people believe Putin has billions of dollars.

In 2018 he reported that he earned 113000 dollars per year and had a total of 243000 dollars spread across a few banks. He also reported only owning an 800 sq foot appartment, 2 Soviet cars and an off-road truck. People believe he has more much much more than what he says.

Putin has been linked to 58 private airplanes including a massive private jet that has a 60000 dollars gold toilet installed and this would be only a quarter of the wealth he claims to have.

He is also linked to a 1.2 billion dollar yacht 15 different homes and the most impressive of all a billion dollar mansion. The mansion has 3 helicopter, a church and an outdoor amphitheatre. There are also several other homes throughout Russia and the world that are thought to be Putin's some of which have bowling alleys, heated pools with gold tiles and large movie theaters.


The majority of Putin's wealth is linked to him this way; through close friends and business allies in fact three of Putin's friends have offshore account valued at around 2 billion dollars.Workers in several Russian companies have revealed that Putin has stakes in them including a 4.5% stake in Gazprom a prominent oil company with 112 billion dollars in revenue. People have also alleged that Putin has 50% ownership of Gunvor another oil company where one of Putin's childhood friends was a co-owner and another a co-founder. Putin has also been spoted in some luxurious homes and even wearing 700000 dollar worth of luxury watches including a Patek Philippe perpetual calendar watch.
