Meaning of AWD, RWD, FWDand 4WD found in cars


Many of us do have vehicles that has these inscription 4WD,AWD and AWD and we don't actually know the meaning.Here is their various meaning and what they denotes.

AWD

This drive train means All Wheel Drives. This implies that in the car you are driving the system powers the front and rear wheels simultaneously and always. These set of cars are good for driving in sloppy and muddy roads.This type of cars is advisable for learners and it is easy to control.Toyota AWD car

RWD

This means Rear Wheel Drives. This is a type of car in which only the rear wheel is powered by the engine and the fore or front wheel is for steering.This type of car overseer,this means it can loose grip when the speed limit exceeds and it will be difficult to be controlled by an average road driver.

FWD

This means Front Wheel Drives. This is a set of car in which only the front wheel is propelled by the engine,this set of car is known for its fuel efficiency and staying on tracks. Also recommended for learners

But FWD and RWD are subset of 2WD or two wheel drives.some may ask FWD and RWD which is better,FWD has better fuel efficiency and can arat on tracks and RWD has smoother rides,good brakes and more control because of its weight balance.

4WD

Also 4WD,also known as 4×4 or 4-by-4.this is a a car where all the wheel us powered by the engine.

Note:There is only a slight difference between 4WD and AWD. 4WD handles difficult terrain,muds or roads better than AWD.
