Nearly Every Modern Day Bank Customer uses the ATM Machine for various things like making withdrawals, transferring money, paying for utility and other bills, etc. Unfortunately, many bad people out there prey on innocent people especially those who don’t know how to protect themselves.
Here are some signs to look out for before you insert your card to use the ATM for any transactions , so we can protect ourselves, others and our money
1. A blue screen that wouldn’t go away
If you see an ATM showing a blank blue screen that will no go away and yet the card reader is blinking for you to insert our card, do not use it. It could be faulty and may swallow your card. Some may not take in your PIN correctly and could lead to blocking the ATM Card.
2. The Out of Service Sign
This looks very simple, but if you know how many people still go ahead to insert their cards, which later gets stuck, and or problems arise, you will not take it for granted. If you see this sing any ATM, do not insert your card to use that ATM.
3. A Card Slot That Sticks Out Unusually
Scammers sometimes use this to get car details from unsuspecting victims. ATM Fraudsters can make a fake ATM card with the magnetic strip data. They can use your card at any ATM because they also have your PIN and can even empty the account.
So if you see any card reader that looks like any of this or looks suspicious in a way you are not comfortable with, especially ATMs in Isolated areas and nights. When in doubt, shake or jiggle the card slot and see if it feels somehow fake or too fragile.
3. A Gray Coloured Box that Looks Very Suspicious
If you see any extra things like attachments, fastened memory card reader,think before you insert you card into machine. This could be a device is there to steal your information. Sometimes these ATM fraudsters and skimmers don’t even have to physically collect you card to steal your information and use for their own purposes.
