Africa's Greatest President Ever

Africa's Greatest President Ever

Thomas Sankara was Burkina Faso's President from 1983 - 1987.

In 4 years he;

Built 350 schools, roads, railways without foreign aid

Increased literacy rate by 60%

Banned forced marriages

Gave poor people land

Vaccinated 2.5 million kids

Planted 10 million trees

Drove out French imperialism & withdrew Burkina Faso from IMF (International Monetary Fund)

His best friend, Blaise Compaore murdered him, buried him quietly and ruled for 27 years.

Thomas Sankara was warned by the military, police, intelligence service and his security that his best friend, Blaise Compaore had plans to plot a coup against him. Sankara refused to believe that he would do such a thing.

When Sankara decided to act on this, it was too late.

Thomas sankara refused to use the AC in his office because it was not available to the common man. It wasn't a merely symbolic gesture. He reduced his salaries and that of Ministers and senior civil servants. He built 350 schools and made sure every village had medical presence.

Thomas Sankara, a skilled Guitarist personally composed Burkina Faso's national anthem.

Thomas Sankara and Fela Kuti were friends, Fela said people in Europe kept talking to him about how non-corrupt Sankara was before he met him. He said many of them said he was too responsible and honest to be an African leader.

Fela was devastated when he heard about his murder.

In the words of Thomas Sankara “Our revolution is not simply for spouting slogans that are no more than signals used by manipulators trying to use them as catchwords, codewords, as a foil for their own display.” He was a great man and that is why h is the greatest African president.
