See The 5 Costly Mistakes That Gave Out Hushpuppi
There are many scammers that are prowling the internet worldwide, the amount of money lost by internet users and some big organizations, over the years is worth billions of dollars. The question is, were all the perpetrators arrested?
Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, 37 years old, internet fraudster is the latest to be taken down by law enforcement agencies. The "Gucci Master", popularly referred to as Hushpuppi, was recently extradited to the United States of America, for years of Online fraudulent activities. It is estimated that close two million people, got scammed by Hushpuppi and his syndicate.
The recently released document, submitted by FBI to a U.S court, has revealed how he was taken down. Based on the analysis made by FBI detectives, these are the avoidable mistakes that gave out Hushpuppi.
1. Performing fraudulent acts with phone numbers that were traceable to your genuine identity: According to the FBI detectives, a co-conspirator 1 that had perpetrated fraudulent activities, was arrested in Los Angeles. It was from the chats history and the phone logs of the arrested co-conspirator 1, the Hushpuppi phone number was identified. His role as the "picker" was confirmed from the chat he had with co-conspirator 1. The FBI detectives also found contact linked to Snapchat username "hushpuppi5." What kind of con man uses a phone number that is traceable to him to perpetrate fraud? How can a fraudster give out his real name or traceable nickname to crime partners in the game? When they're taken down, the link between the two becomes deadly. Hushpuppi made this grievous mistake, he gave out a traceable phone number to an already arrested co-conspirator, he gave out a contact that was linked to his popularly known Snapchat account to a co-conspirator. Who does that?
2. Unnecessary showing off on the social media: Both Dubai Police Force and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), did a thorough investigation on the Instagram page of Hushpuppi. Hushpuppi's Instagram page, is filled with pictures that show an ostentatious lifestyle, that even a genuine billionaire will struggle to afford. Hushpuppi defrauded many and was still showing off how he blew away their money on expensive toys, via his Instagram page. Why won't you get taken down? It is important to point out that, the same nickname, "Hushpuppi" was using in the fraud game was also used by him to create an Instagram account. It's a simple rule, if you are not clean, never get involved with social media. It will give you out, one day.
3. Hushpuppi kept too many records of his criminal activities in his g-mail account: No matter how smart you are, top security agencies have some dangerous computer guys, that can access some of your deepest safes. Hushpuppi left so much information on his e-mail account, this gave out his identification and fraudulent tracks. Hushpuppi failed to remember one of the rules in the game, never leave a traceable link to your real identity whether online or offline.
4. He didn't know when to stop: No matter how sophisticated you are in the game, you must know when to call it a quit. The bigger you are in the game, the greater the chances of you being caught. FBI does not go after the small fry, they go after the biggest whale in the ocean. Hushpuppi refused to quit when he had made more than enough, greed took over, he lost the game.
5. Hushpuppi never had an exit plan: No one stays in the game for too long without being caught. Perpetrating a massive fraud, within the shore of the U.S should have triggered him to put a solid exit plan in place. The strength of American security agencies is so enormous, that you will be tracked to anywhere you are carrying out the fraud. He could have foreseen this, by relocating his base to a country that do not extradite accused person to the United States of America. He could have settled for facial plastic surgery but he failed. Hushpuppi will have to serve the jail time given to him, fraud doesn't pay.
